Club News

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Click on the link to access the latest club quarterly newsletter. The  winter calendar is now out - click here to access it. This page is for recent news, events (and gossip!). Please feel free to email the secretary with all the latest - who's been out training, where (and with who!).. who's been half wheeling in training rides... who has bought themselves a new bike....

Membership updates

New memberships for 2010 are now available for riders who are not current members of the club. Full licences cost $80, and details can be found on the Membership page. Current members can also now renew their membership for the 2010 season.  You will not be allowed to compete in a race until you renew your license after January 2010. Our club membership now stands at 49 fully licensed riders as well as our invaluable social members. It would be fantastic to top this number in 2010.

So far this year we have 11 new members who are new to the sport.  This is great considering we have had a few members from last year that have left town and not re-joined the club.  Please try to support and encourage the new members.

Members who have new bikes this season include Terry Korn, Peter Fisher, Tim Whitton, Neil Peadon, Grahame Chapman, Mark McKenna, Robert Duffy, Maurie Ashford, Stuart Lobsey, and Phil Harrex.  Carbon fibre is the new material and everyone is getting in amongst it.

Congratulations

The club would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to 16 year old Dubbo cyclist Megan Dunn who won the 2008 Bay Series held in Victoria. Many Dubbo-based club members have ridden with Megan in the past both on and off the track and have little doubt that her success is due not only to natural talent and fine coaching but also to her dogged nature and drive to succeed. Well done Meg!

Congratulations also to Darrell Wheeler, who recently competed in the World Track Titles in Sydney.   pursuit event.  He was unlucky not to get a medal in this event, with 3   Well done Darrell!

Winter Races

The winter race season started on Saturday 1st May 2010.  The pointscore will be in operation again this year, with 1st place getting 11 points, 2nd place 10 points, 3rd place 9 points and so on.  Everyone else who finishes the race will receive one point  We don't have any Bar-B-Qs during the season, but lots of fantastic prizes (OK, pizzas, coffee vouchers etc) will be up for grabs in each race.

The winter pointscore will finish on 25th September, but we will have three extra race days on the Burraway Road course during October.  These races will be treated as training races, and will not attract points in the pointscore.  We will still give out pizza and coffee vouchers for the first three placings.

Updates to website

There is  a National Titles page on this site. If you are looking for results from titles, have a bo peep! Also, you will see that all of our sponsors are mentioned.

Fashion Hints

Apparently cable ties are being worn extra long this year. Not sure if the magpies have taken the hint.

Race Etiquette

A reminder to all riders on a number of race etiquette points.  Firstly, if you have not worked at the front of a bunch in a handicap race, it is not considered sporting that you contest the sprint. Consider the riders who have worked hard all race to get the bunch into a winning position - it isn't fair that they do the hard work and you reap the rewards. If you want to sprint, you should spend your time at the front of the bunch. If you don't have the strength to do every turn, at least do a few.

Secondly, DO NOT move from the rear of the bunch to the front against the flow of the bunch. If you want to work a turn at the front, then you need to move up through the bunch - don't come up on the outside. It's dangerous on the narrow roads we race on and breaks up the rhythm of the bunch.
