Orana Veterans Cycling Club only had two representatives taking part
this year. The ever-green Evan Elliott from Dubbo, and Hugh Gray
from Sydney, travelled down to SA to take part in all events including
the track events. Evan was able to gain a gold medal in the 2km
pursuit event on the track, a gold in the Time Trial road event , and a
gold medal in the Road Race. Evan was in the 75 to 79 year
division and had some strong competition from the other riders in his
age group. He was unable to get a medal in the Criterium event, as
he was relegated to a very close 4th place in the final sprint.
Hugh
Gray lives in Sydney and has been a member of the OVCC since it was
formed. Hugh was able to get a silver medal in his division
(65-69) of the road race, as well as a bronze in the Criterium on
Sunday.
Congratulations
to both riders.

The
National Titles will be held in beautiful Tasmania in October
2012. Lets hope we can get a big contingent from Orana Vets next
year. Start planning now.
National Titles 2010
Orana Vets cycle club was well represented at the
National Titles this year with 13 riders entered in various events.
Entrants were Evan Elliott, Kathy Furney, Darrell Wheeler, Ray Wheeler,
Phil Harrex, Maurie Ashford, Amber Carter, Raphael Chapman, Jeff
Sargent, Grahame Chapman, Max Newton, Catriona Jennings and David
Menzies. Narromine Vets Club was also represented by Keith and
Dana Harris.
Unfortunately Phil Harrex was injured in a race one week
prior to the Titles and was unable to take part. Bad news for
Maurie Ashford also, who was injured in the last lap of his criterium
race, when his bike went out from under him.
However the other participants took part and did their
club proud. Not everyone received medals, but the total tally was
3 gold, four silver and 6 bronze. Darrell Wheeler was awarded gold
in the time trial as well as the criterium, and got the silver in
the road race in a very close finish. Evan Elliott won gold for
the time trial, bronze in the Criterium and silver in the road race.
Ray Wheeler took home silver medals in the criterium and road race.
Kathy Furney got bronze for the time trial and road race. Amber
Carter got Silver in the criterium and bronze for the road race.
Max Newton was awarded a bronze medal in his road race, while Dana
Harris got a bronze in the road race.
Darrell Wheeler also received 3rd prize for the Russell
Mockridge Age Adjusted Time Trial, as well as another prize for the best
overall performance in his age division. Evan Elliott was another
recipient of the best overall performer in his age division.
All the results are on the ACT Vets website at www.actvets.cc
Congratulations to all who took part.
Next year the National Titles will be held in Adelaide
in May. Lets see if we can get another good crowd down there.
